Members, I have received updated USAFA Mask guidance, see below:

    “14 May 2021

MEMORANDUM FOR USAFA MISSION ELEMENTS AND TENANT UNITS

    FROM: 10 ABW/CC

SUBJECT: USAFA Guidance on Use of Masks

Per this guidance, fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors on the USAFA installation, with the following exception:

    a. IAW Centers for Disease Control guidelines, masks will continue to be required in all military medical and dental treatment facilities on USAFA regardless of vaccination status. This includes, but is not limited, to 10th Medical Group Clinic, cadet medicine, dental, and pharmacy.

    2. Mission Elements, commanders and supervisors may make exceptions to this guidance to protect the workforce. USAFA remains in HPCON Bravo with an active Continuity of Operations Program (COOP) Plan.

    3. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear masks but may choose to do so. Please note that this guidance does not affect social-distancing or other non-mask wearing requirements laid out in previous Public Health Directives.

    4. My point of contact is Col Ramon Yambo-Arias, Public Health Emergency Officer (PHEO) who can be contacted at 719-333-6239 or usaf.usafa.10-mdg.mbx.public-health@mail.mil.”

    Academy Archery Club Message

    April 20, 2021

    Attention Members!

The General Meeting for April 29th at 6pm is CANCELLED.

    Black Bears Emerging from Hibernation

Spring is here and the regions black bears will be coming out of hibernation and looking for a quick, easy meal.  If bears found food in the trash containers near your home or office last year before hibernating, it's probably one of the first places they will return to this spring.  If it happens to be a returning sow with cubs, she’s unfortunately educating the next generation of “dumpster divers”.

Access to food habituates bears to becoming more comfortable around people.  To help keep them away, make sure the doors on your bear-resistant dumpster or toter receptacles are closed and properly latched.  This also protects the bear population, as medicines, chemicals, plastics, and other household trash items can injure or kill a bear.

To report a bear-resistant dumpster needing repair in the Pine Valley or Douglass Valley housing areas, contact Hunt Housing maintenance at 867-9675.  Housing residents who do not use a bear-resistant dumpster must secure their trash in a garage, or other enclosed area, until collection day.

For all non-housing bear-resistant container repairs, call the 10 CES Customer Service at 333-2790.

For immediate bear problems, contact the 10 Security Forces Squadron at 333-2000.

To report bear sightings or recurring issues, please call 10 CES Natural Resources at 333-3308.

    TOURNAMENTS:

Registration for the April 24th, 1st Leg event will open on March 12th. Event participation will be capped at 100 archers. Check out the event calendar on our website to register for these events.

      SPRING LEAGUE:

The club is looking for folks who would like to help Richard Garritson, and James and Clint Velasquez with the leadership of a field archery league. Our club has historically had a competitive field archery league called the Spring League, which has slowly declined in participation.  Given our rapidly growing membership, the club wants to rebuild the Spring League with the primary goal of building a new group of field archers.  Using the same approach as the Triple Crown, the Club will offer informative lessons on competitive field archery, make the league more ‘fun’, and provide a schedule that accommodates many, especially families and kids. So, polling our members’ interests and leading some teaching events are needed for those unfamiliar with field archery competition. Given our investment we want to use the website for league registration, score keeping and collecting any fees needed to support the league, etc... So, step one is to create a Spring League page under tournaments on the website then design/implement event registration and score keeping.

      Academy Archery Club Newsletter

      December 2020

678 Members, (348 members with family members of 330)

2020 has been a challenge and a year we will never forget, and with your contribution as a member, daily passes and/or volunteering, we were able to maintain the #1 Outdoor Range in Colorado!  Our range provided archers a safe haven to release tension and bring families together outdoors during the COVID epidemic.  Great thanks to Everyone!

Here are a list of some of the tremendous accomplishments in 2020:

      • Kitchen/bathroom was renovated providing additional bathroom area and to get compliant with grey water discharge laws.
      • New Website - enabling online payment, providing more information to members/community (improvements ongoing)  Reduced the need to have a paid employee saving the club money – consolidated all administrative functions (consolidated constant contact, go daddy and others into a single cheaper more capable solution)
      • Big Boy Targets--Researched cost/labor for replacing sound board to Big Boy targets (your feedback was heard) have ordered 34 targets start arriving in mid Jan.
      • 3D Range--Expanded/improved 3D range from 1 to 3 areas to provide more realistic situations and challenging shots
      • Kids 3D & Broadhead Range—Brand new!
      • Slideshow--Created for Club House for club information
      • Maintenance Plans for all of our Assets: facilities/equipment; tools
      • Targets--Established a detailed history of each Target (butt, target placed on (paper or waterproof), stand, placement, etc.) This will enable a strategic plan for years to come
      • Three Sheds--Reorganized the sheds & surrounding area to include constructing new shelves
      • Static/Olympic Range—laid out new area for Olympic Range south of static Adding a hard surface for level path and wheelchair access to support wounded warrior and members.
      • 205 acre Range--Established a boundary with USAFA
      • Membership--Maintained membership during COVID

Here are some of the upcoming/ongoing tasks to accomplish in 2021:

      • Level 1-2 Instructor courses for interested members to teach
      • Install new targets throughout range
      • Install new boundary signs
      • Establish approval for South Gate property
      • Youth groups/CYO/Cadet involvements
      • Tournament outcome/updates in Jan
      • Updating By-Laws and January elections
      • Maintenance plans/Target replacement/Rearrange range 4/Static range/Olympic targets
      • Review the two Liability insurance documents
      • Establish Insurance for Club Assets

      Kudos to our VOLUNTEERS!!!!

      • Quad group (Bob, Scott, Dan and Steve) and saying that there is too many additional ones to name.
      • Richell and Paint Shop Crew (family) creating the kid’s range and establishing our website for memberships to name a couple.
      • Scotty family:  Seryna/Emily/Nick for assisting w/memberships ect.
      • Range Maintenance Managers: Nolden Soerensen/Scott Rodgers/Al Duhon/Dennis Ferl
      • Board-Scotty/Pete/Bob/Mario/Kay
      • All others that have volunteered…too many to name-Thank you!

      Broadhead Concern:

      • Currently we have had archers shooting broadheads into our 3D targets and on 7 Dec we had someone shoot practice broadhead tips that are not allowed on our static range (see picture below). Not only is this a tremendous safety concern but it costs our volunteers a lot of man-hours to repair the damage caused by the careless act.
      • Broadheads and practice broadheads are ONLY allowed on the broadhead range.  Shooting Broadheads anywhere other than the broadhead lane will be grounds for removal of range privileges.  Please correct any violators and/or report to academyarcheryclub@gmail.com.

We are glad to hear your feedback: email-- academyarcheryclub@gmail.com and please visit our website academyarcheryclub.org
